About Year-Round Cultivation

Though cultivation of summer/fall strawberries in plain areas has been said to be difficult, we are trying to cultivate them by demonstrating new technologies that did not exist before. We are actively applying the modern technology while making the best use of the characteristics of cooler areas, and aiming at year-round harvest of summer/fall strawberries, making them our strategic crops for Yamamoto-cho.

 Crown Cooling System

Crown Cooling System is cooling equipment for cooling strawberries’ crowns (the root of a plant) directly by running water into a tube in order to stimulate growth.

 Pad & Fan System

Pad & Fan System is equipment for refrigerating the entire greenhouse using vaporization heat.

 Suppression of weeds using burned ashes

With the use of recyclable fired burned ashes the growth of weeds around the greenhouse is suppressed, lowering the possibility of pests entering the greenhouse.

 Steaming Processor

Pests can be exterminated by exposing plant body to hot steams around 50℃ for a short period of time. Using this method we can suppress an outbreak of pests without damaging plants excessively, or using pesticides.

 LED light supplement experiment

By supplying plants the LED lights, we are attempting to expand the yield through acceleration of photosynthesis.

 Tests on ITRI A-shaped Strawberry Cultivation Facilities

Since each medium is independent, the chance of an outbreak of soil-transmitted diseases is lowered, and this reduces the risk of plants catching diseases and the burden of re-operating the permanent planting. Furthermore, production per tan is expected to increase because of the rise in number of plants per unit area.

For quick feedbacks, we harvest our tomatoes when 3 layers are ready for harvest but no more, and with the feedbacks we are searching for the best ways to cultivate tomatoes at high sugar content and large yield at Yamamoto-cho, Miyagi.
